Two-Stage Brake ServoThe pedal force required by the driver when braking is reduced by the brake servo. The two-stage brake servo is an innovation, as found on the Volkswagen Golf and the Touran, for example. Up to a brake pressure of about 45 bar, known as the comfort braking range, the brake servo operates with the standard factor 5 boost. If the driver steps harder on the brake, brake assistance is increased to factor 10. This is communicated to the driver by fast-action braking combined with short pedal travel, good controllability and reduced braking effort up to the point at which the ABS is activated. |
